Mary, Mary, quite contrary how does your garden grow?

with tomatoes, and peppers and peas and beans... and a pumpkin thrown in between

It's done!! I was convinced it wasn't going to happen this year, but thanks to a friend who tilled my garden for me - it was easier than I thought. Thank you SO much Matt!!
So I've got like 8 tomato plants (amish, early girl and beefmaster), 4 green peppers, 5 peas, 5 green beans, 4 banana peppers, 4 jalapenos, 2 cucumbers and a pumpkin. I've also got some basil, oregano and cliantro. I'd like to find some rosemary, but I haven't found any as of yet. They've all been sold out. Can't wait for my little garden to fill in with vegetables. Vegetables - not weeds please.

Hard Work

So we haven't just been doing nothing around here. We've been busy! Especially this last week and a half. Our front yard has been a thorn in my side almost since we moved in. The first owner of the house LOVED yard work and would spend hours every day in his gardens. They were gorgeous but I, on the other hand, HATE yard work. So I've had the idea for a while, and finally took it to Chris - saying it needs to be done, and done now. I wanted to fill in all our garden plots with a more manageable plant... grass!!!!

We thought we'd do the area around the pine tree first. Then maybe this fall when the weather starts cooling off again we'd do the other section. (you can see it to the left with the tulips) We have a fence to replace as well this summer.
So this was our section that we needed to fill in. I wish I had a before picture of it. 10 days ago it DID NOT look like this. It had rose bushes and tons of other plants - all of which I don't the name of. Last weekend we got most of the bushes and things up, but Chris brought home this little Bobcat excavator thing and we were able to really get the ground level. The dirt was also way high - we took 2 full loads to the dump. Then Chris dug some new sprinklers and we finished leveling...
NEW GRASS!!!!!!!
There was just this little patch right at the front with all these rocks. I think there might have been a tree in there when we moved in, but it's been gone for so long I don't really remember. Filled that in too.
Another view. We're going to do a rock border around the tree with large boulders which we don't have yet. All in time.
And we just happened to have a little bit of grass leftover. There was this small rectangle of weeds where we just put the doghouse and some random toys. It was outlined in concrete, but when we realized we still had some rolls of grass left, we went to town on the weeds and concrete. In maybe 30 minutes it was ready to go and we had EXACTLY enough grass to fill it in. I think we had one more little 1'x1' square left. Out of 280 sq feet that's not bad...

Now I have a garden to fix up and plant. The work never ends.

Nathan's Accident

Yesterday Nathan was playing behind the couch and face planted on to the fireplace. Good times! He was bleeding and screaming, and his gums were all bleeding and I noticed his tooth was NOT where it was supposed to be. So I took him to the dentist and they said he is fine for now - we'll just have to wait and see. He is going to have ugly crooked teeth until his permanent ones come in... which for our family seem to be in the 6-7 yr old range.
My poor baby is just fine, and you'd never know he hurt himself except that when he eats he says 'hurt' 'hurt'
..pardon the junk on his mouth. So the left front tooth got shoved back and up and the right front tooth got chipped.

yeah, these were all straight 24 hours ago...

At least he is happy and healthy. He was hurting yesterday, and last night he had to figure out how to sleep without the pacifier, but I think he is going to be alright in the end. phew! Kids rebound faster than Moms I think...

Mommas first 5k

We all did our first 5k fun run last weekend. It was rainy and freezing, but it was fun. Here are our fabulous pictures...

Oh yeah, this one's a keeper...

And I was mean and made the kids sit. Eli has a 5k in a couple weeks for his elementary school, so he'll get to walk for that one. I just walked most of it since I was pushing both kids and came in at about 41 minutes. Chris jogged and he said his time was about 30 minutes. Maybe we'll try it again when it's not so cold!! LOL!
